The Indian naval sailing vessel 'Tarangini' which has been on a
circumnavigation voyage around the world for 15 months is currently
in Sri Lanka, its final destination before reaching India on April
25.
Commander
of the ship Mukul Asthana said their aim of sailing around the world
is to foster friendship across the oceans and that docking in Colombo
is a special occasion as Sri Lanka has been a good friend of India.
During the course of the voyage the ship has visited 37 ports in
17 countries and taken part in the tall ship races conducted by
the American Sail Training Association in the Great Lakes. The ship
has a crew of 70.
The
ship also provides opportunities for seamen from foreign countries
to sail in it and obtain training in leadership, and teamwork. Three
men from Sri Lanka are to undergo training in the ship. Pictures
