Wanni
MP stopped at gate
By Chris Kamalendran
A newly elected MP who turned up at the Parliamentary complex on
Friday to register himself was stopped due to a bureaucratic blunder
though it did not amount to a breach of privilege yet.
Sivanathan
Kishore, elected from the Wanni district on the TNA ticket had turned
up at the police barrier in response to a notice from the Parliamentary
Secretary General, Priyani Wijesekara.
Though
Mr. Kishore produced his identity card, the police officers insisted
that they could not let him pass as his name was not on the list.
The MP even produced a gazette notification with his name but the
gates did not open. Eventually, Mr. Kishore spoke to parliamentary
officials on the telephone and a double check by them finally opened
the gates for him.
Parliamentary
sources said the mishap had taken place as the staff had prepared
the list of elected members based on the results prior to the gazette
notification. Since the release of the Wanni result had been delayed,
the earlier list did not have the names of all elected members from
Wanni. |
