Aravinda
and Gayan top at Foxhill
By M. Shamil Amit
Champion
driver Aravinda Premadasa representing the Team Caltex and the new
kid in motor racing Gayan Sandaruwan stole the show at the 12th
Foxhill Supercross motor racing meet organized by the Sri Lanka
Association of Drivers and Riders and sponsored by Dialog GSM which
was held at the Sri Lanka Military Academy motor racing track in
Diyatalawa yesterday.
The
duo won two races each in the motor cars and motor cycle events
and were judged the champion driver and rider of the Foxhill Supercross
meet 2004. Aravinda driving a Mitshubishi Evo VI won both the Super
Car events for Cars over 3500cc while Gayan riding a Honda CR 125
won two events and was placed in two other events. The highlight
of riding was that he was riding a bike with less power while most
of the other riders were on 250cc bikes.
Nishan
Wasalathanthri also of Team Caltex was the other driver to secure
two wins when he won both the Ford Laser/Mazda upto 1500cc events.
Rizvi Farook another member of Team Caltex continued his winning
spree when he won his pet event for Cars 1400c to 1600cc event.
There
was no stopping Aravinda in winning his two races. In the first
race he had things on his own by maintaining the lead from the start
of the race but he had to fight back to win the second event after
giving the lead to Feroz Omar. But the two wins of youngster Gayan
was a treat to watch as he pipped his challenger at the last jump.
He won both the races in the identical fashion.
The
sole foreign rider S. Rehman of India too won two events riding
a TVS 125 and TVS 250cc. The feature of the meet was the first place
secured by two brothers Sasindu and Pasindu Peiris. The crowd which
numbered nearly 50,000 were given a treat of first class driving
and riding by the participants. There was one serious incident where
motorcycle rider Arjuna Abeykoon was thrown off his bike and had
to be taken to hospital.
