Anil,
Maria and Sarana on Avurudu tour
By Sunimalee Dias
Veteran singer Anil Bhareti together with Mariazelle
Goonetilleke with the one-man accompaniment of Sarana Gunaratne
is currently globetrotting on a four-country tour to entertain locals
around the world during this festive Sinhala New Year season in
Sweden, Denmark, France and Finland.
Anil
is currently in Paris having completed his singing tour in Sweden
and Denmark to large Sri Lankan audiences entertaining them with
the Sri Lankan hits that are still popular among many locals both
here and abroad.
The
trio left the country for their first stop in Sweden where they
performed at Folketsehus Gustavslundvagon for the theme titled “Bak
Maha Ulela 2004” to the Sri Lankan audiences there. The event,
which held on April 17, was organized there by Sunil Kahapolaarachchi.
The
Sri Lanka Associations in these countries are the main supporters
of the tour during this festive season. The second show kicked off
in Denmark once again to a Sri Lankan audience who were greeted
to some of the favourite hits.
Some
of the numbers that Anil had in store were “Ma Adare Nangi”,
“Tikirimali”, “Adavai Irudina”, “Rosy”
and “Sarojini” along with Mariazelle of “Kandy
Lamissi” fame among other hits. Sarana is the only organist
providing accompaniment while singing along as well.
The
next leg of his tour from Denmark took him to Paris where he was
expected to perform to audiences there too who are sure to be given
a good dose of his favourite hits when he belts out many-a- tune
on May 1.
His
next stop would be in Finland where the Sri Lanka Association has
organised the event in the interest of the Sri Lankans living there
who are expected to be drawn to this rare feat.
During
the course of the year Anil will go on another trip to Canada along
with Annesley Malewana to enthrall the Sri Lankans there to a performance
of “Artistes’ of 70s”. In addition he will be
on tour once again around September this year on his visit to Australia
where he will be performing to the large Sri Lankan expatriates
there. |
