No
date for JHU's debate on ISGA
The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has asked for a day-long debate on
the ongoing peace process as well as the LTTE 's Interim Self Governing
Authority (ISGA) proposals when Parliament meets next month.
The
request had been made at a party leaders meeting in Parliament last
week. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse had said the government would
allocate a date for the debate as soon as possible but did not commit
to a date in June.
Parliament
will meet again on the 8th of June. At the same meeting, it was
agreed that the government would be allowed the majority of members
in the all committees of Parliament even though it is a minority
government.
However,
Opposition members had expressed the hope the government will allow
the Public Account sCommittee and the Committee on Public Enterprises
to be headed by one of their members following the precedent set
during the previous regime. |
