Karuna
faction vows return and revenge
A fresh warning has been issued by a group purported to be backing
LTTE's former Batticaloa-Ampara military leader Karuna vowing to
take revenge on pro-Prabhakaran cadres operating in the eastern
province.
A
hitherto unidentified group on Friday distributed leaflets in the
Batticaloa town claiming that Karuna's group had only 'temproraily'
withdrawn and would be returning to take over.
The
warning came four days after Eastern University academic Kumaravel
Thambiah was gunned down at his residence in Batticaloa town. He
was identified as a supporter of the LTTE and had fled his home
earlier when Karuna ordered persons of northern origin to leave.
The
one-page leaflet distributed explained why Karuna's group had virtually
given up its fight when the LTTE sent its cadres from the north
to take over in April.
The
leaflet said many of the cadres who were sent in from the north
belonged to the eastern province and Karuna did not want a confrontation
with his cadres from his own areas. The leaflet warns government
servants, students and the public to refrain from extending support
to LTTE northern cadres who were referred to as traitors from the
Wanni.
"Our
injured persons were not allowed to be taken to hospital and they
were bled to death. Some of the civilians also were treated in a
similar manner," said the leaflet which was distributed by
a group in a white van at night. The warning was also given to businessmen
who they claimed were supporting the LTTE. |
