No doctor, but date with death
Twenty-seven-year-old police officer Janaka Premakumara Wasala had served in Vavuniya for several years and joined the Ministerial Security Division two weeks ago as a bodyguard for Deputy Minister Sripathi Sooriyaarachchi.

Yesterday he was slain in the Kelaniya attack, leaving his wife Chathurani shocked, horrified and widowed after just two years of marriage and with an infant now without a father.

Chathurani, 23, said her husband had left for work on Friday, saying he would be back by 3 p.m. yesterday to take her to a doctor. But instead it was only a terrible date with death.
