India: LTTE tells TNA MPs
By Chris Kamalendran
The LTTE yesterday advised Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians
to work towards improving relations with the new Indian government
and seek its support for the proposals on the Interim Self-Governing
Authority (ISGA).
The
advice was given by LTT'E Political Wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan
at a meeting with TNA MPs in Kilinochchi. According to Tamil political
sources, TNA MPs will visit Tamil Nadu and New Delhi next month
for this purpose. With DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and the pro-LTTE
Vaiko now close to the Manmohan Singh government, the TNA MPs are
likely to work out the new policy through the Tamil Nadu leaders.
They are also likely to meet India's new Foreign Minister Natwar
Singh and others.
The
Kilinochchi meeting also decided on a new campaign to pressurise
the government to negotiate on the ISGA, the sources said. The awareness
campaign beginning in Trincomalee next Saturday will cover all North-East
districts to win widespread public support for the ISGA proposals.
Mr.
Thamilselvan told the MPs that the government was adopting delaying
tactics and warned the people were losing patience for the failure
to resume peace talks. Government leaders are insisting that the
delay is caused by the LTTE's insistence that the ISGA proposals
must be taken up first before core issues are discussed.
Mr.
Thamilselvan also told the TNA to form a group of ten MPs to keep
the diplomatic community briefed on developments in the peace process.
All eight LTTE district political leaders attended yesterday's meeting. |
