Under
23 Division I tourney gets underway this week

The Under 23 Division One cricket tournament will get underway from
this week. The first round matches are scheduled to be played on
June 12 and 13 at various venues around the island. Twenty teams
divided into four groups will vye for honours this year. Matugama
CC are the new entrants this year replacing Matara SC.
Last
year's champions Chilaw Marians are in Group 'A' along with Colts
CC, Panadura SC, Seeduwa Raddoluwa SC and Matugama CC. In Group
'B' are Air Force, Ragama CC, NCC, Tamil Union and Nugegoda SWC.
In Group 'C' are last years runners up SSC, Galle CC, CCC, Police
and Moors SC while Group 'D' consists of Bloomfield, Saracens SC,
Negombo CC, Sebastianites and Kurunegala YCC.
The
scheduled matches for this week are Colts vs Matugama CC at Colts
grounds, Tamil Union vs NCC at NCC grounds, Moors vs Galle CC at
Braybrooke Place, Kurunegala YCC vs Saracens SC at Welagedera and
Negombo CC vs Sebastianites at Kadirana. The venues for two matches
Panadura SC vs Seeduwa RSC and Ragama CC vs Nugegeoda SWC are yet
to be confirmed.
The
first round matches are scheduled to end in the second week of July
and the quarter finals, semi finals and final are due to be played
over three days starting from July 23. The finals are scheduled
to be played from August 6 to 8. |
