Janaki,
the livewire of the Lilacs
‘Janaki and the Lilacs’ is a popular music group in
the oriental music field. This seven piece band is led by visharadha
Janaki Eroshani Edirisinghe.
Though
the band is from Pannipitiya , they have performed in almost every
where in Sri Lanka . Started in 1998, ‘Janaki and the Lilacs’
was an all girl group . But with the time, most of the girls have
left the lineup and only Janaki’s sister Chamindika Priyadharshni,
the bassist of the band, is left with other male members .
The
band comprises Janaki on keyboards and vocals, Chamindika on bass
and vocals, Harsha Satharasinghe on guitar, Ruwan Ekanayake, the
Manager of the outfit on guitar, Lalith Perera on drums and vocals,
Malith Wasantha Perera on octopad and Chandrasena Weerakkody and
Jagath on vocals.
Although
the leader Janaki studied both Western and Eastern music, her favour
of eastern music make her to study up to the Visharadha level.
She
is a versatile performer. Janaki can play guitar, drums, electric
keyboards, violin and piano. She is a popular music teacher and
she conducts music classes at her own institute ‘Lilacs Institute
of Music’ in Pannipitiya. |
