Aloka Pooja at Tantirimale
Tantirimale is a historic site, said to be close to the village founded by Upatissa, who accompanied Prince Vijaya when he landed at Tambapanni. It is also said that Theri Sanghsmitta, rested here on her way to Anuradhapura with the Bo sapling. The present Bodhi at Tantitimale is from one of the eight seedlings taken from the Jayasiri Maha Bodhi planted at Mahameuna Uyana in Anuradhpura.

For centuries Tantirimale was abandoned when the jungle encroached over it. Forty years ago, Tantirimale began to regain its past glory with the interest taken by the Ven. Tantirimale Chandrathane Thera. Now after the concerted efforts of many, Tantirimale is once more a centre of religious worship.

Poson celebrations this year were marked by an Aloka Pooja, sponsored by Wijeya Newspapers. School uniform material was presented to 500 students. Excercise books donated by Richard Traading Co. Ltd., and writing and colour materials donated by Ceylon Pencil Company Ltd., were also presented to the students. (From The Sunday Times Plus)
