Prima:
Sri Lanka-S'pore Ministers meet in Brazil
By Harinda Vidanage
Trade Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle is to meet his Singaporean
counterpart on the sidelines of a World Trade Conference in Brazil,
in a bid to settle the crisis with the Singapore based Prima flour
milling company.
The
Sunday Times learns that the Singapore government has intervened
to settle the dispute between the government and the Prima company
over the payment of subsidies and flour prices.
Mr.
Fernandopulle who is on his way for the conference yesterday told
The Sunday Times that he was going with his officials to respond
to questions related to the Prima issue.
Mr.
Fernandopulle said he was armed with all necessary documents and
accompanied by officials connected with the issue so that Sri Lanka
could present its case fully to Singapore.
The
Sunday Times learns that the Prima company had appealed for intervention
by the Singapore government after the Sri Lanka government decided
to clamp a price control on Prima flour.
Officials
said the trade agreement between Sri Lanka and Singapore provided
for protection of investments and the Singapore government had intervened
on that basis. |
