waltz past hapless NalandaBy Shamseer Jaleel
Isipathana College Colombo coming out for the first time this season
in the inter-school rugby season sent a warning to all the schools
when they thrashed the Nalanda outfit by 45 (5 goals, 2 tries) to
nil at Havelock Park yesterday. At "Lemons" the Green
              Shirts led by 26-0.
  The
lads from Havelock Town had too much flair and power as they ran
in seven unanswered tries against a disappointing Nalanda side who
quickly ran out of ideas and were guilty of kicking away much needed
possession. But the Pathana lads though had lot of possession were
unable to convert in to points late in the second half. The lads
from Campbell Place re-grouped, settled and played good rugby in
the last 15 minutes and did not allow the Green shirts to score
any points, but it was too late as the Isipathana side by that time
had a clean lead of 45 points. Isipathana
drew first blood in the 10th minute of the game when Kasun brushed
aside a few defenders to score far left. Full back Harsha failed
to convert for Isipathana to lead (5-0). Soon Kasun went over for
his 2nd try of the match by dummying his way through under the post
to give Harsha an easy conversion (12-0). The nippy scrum half of
the "Green Shirts" Prasad Manjula who had a grand game
added 2 more tries which were converted by Harsha for the Pathana
to go 26-0 at half time. In
the second half they ran in 3 more unanswered tries through Lasintha
              (1) and the winger Hasitha Sandaruwan (2) with two of the tries
were converted to give the Havelock Park lads a good warm up victory
for the 2004-2005 rugby season by 45-0. Referee
Mohamed IrshadAs this match was organized at the last moment the under 17 match
              did not take place.
