‘Boomarang’ hits the music scene
What happens when cream of the crop in the music industry gets together and jams up? Well you get an instant hit. That’s what Boomarang is, a power full line up with the very best musicians in Sri Lanka.

Tired of listening to the same songs played over and over? Boomerang could probably be the remedy for that, for their music is the best adult contemporary in town along with the very best from the yesteryears. The band takes fans back in the memory lane with the best from the 60s and 70s and suddenly a modern rock track is played, so versatility is at its best too.

Jazzy, Funky, groovy and groovier, and once they start your glued to the band, even if your attention is ‘Thrown Away’ It comes back to the band as fast as a Boomarang. Unlike most bands they dont warm up, from the first note their in action, they probably need no warming up for the Experience of the members are in decades.

The line up is lead by the Multi talented Geoffrey Fernando and his brother Russell Fernando both doing their own thing on the mike. Geoffrey and Russell need no introduction in the industry as once they led the biggest bands in the country Purple Rain and Pro Arrangement respectively.

Geoff, popularly known as a multi instrumentalist, taking a break and enjoying his singing while playing percussion. He prefers Soul, R & B and Motown and it’s no surprise why he is the best singer in the island and he even gets better. He got the best bassiest and huskiest voice in the Lankan music scene.

Russell on the other hand is the groove setter with his kind of natural attitude which is really cool when he does The Boss. Russell prefers Pop/Rock and alternative Rock, adding more variety to the band. It’s a real treat to watch them both together in action.

The band Boomerang itself is made out of four of the best instrumentalists you could find in Colombo. Boomerang comprises Geoff, Russell, Kumar de Silva, Primal Liyanage, Alston Joachim and Jude Thiyagarajah.

The highly talented Kumar de Silva is on keyboards and vocals. Kumar is a very senior and experienced musician. A wizard on the keyboards who has won many an award in his career. Also a big time Jazz and blues maestro, who can do magic with the fingers. Kumar is responsible for all the musical arrangements in the band.

On bass guitar and vocals is Alston Joachim. An amazing bassist, veteran in jazz and blues and a very energetic performer. Alston has been in the trade for many a year and he is an Award Winning Instrumentalist too. He Takes his share on the mike on and off as well.

On lead guitar and Vocals is multi talented Primal Liyanage. Primal is well known in the circuit, lastly seen with wildfire. A prodigy in classical guitar and lead guitar he posses his own styles that is very disciplined and balanced unlike a lot of guitarist playing to loud or aggressive. Primal is one of the best singers in Sri Lanka . He is the best country and folk singer in town and if there are awards categorized, Primal would carry away many awards. He Enjoys singing to the crowd alone with the guitar before a break and leaves you wanting more.

Then we have tiny Jude Thiyagarajah. Most probably the best of Mr. Aruna Siriwardena’s students has his own style of drumming, which perfectly fits the band. Being a very passionate musician, Jude enjoys hitting hard on the drums and it’s written on his face. Jude is regarded as one of the best drummers in the island. Boomerang comes alive at Clancys on Saturdays and Rhythm & Blues on Wednesdays and Fridays.
