Project
to reward Sinhala novelists
Sri Lankan art lovers living in Australia have launched a project
to recognize the talented literary personnel living in Sri Lanka
and reward them with cash prizes and certificates.
The
initial step of this project would be to select the Best Sinhala
Novel which has been published and registered in the Department
of National Archives in 2003 and to make a cash award of rupees
50,000/= and “Swarna Padma” (Golden Lotus) trophy to
the author. Swarna Padma Sansadaya organizes the local activities
related to this event on behalf of the Sri Lankan sponsors in Australia.
Popular writer and makeup artiste Buddhi Galappatti, writer Somaratne
Balasuriya and editor of Irida Divayina newspaper, Gamini Sumanasekara
are acting as local coordinators for Swarna Padma Sansadaya.
The
awards ceremony will be held in September this year in Colombo.
An independent panel of judges, which will consist of veteran writers
in Sri Lanka will judge the best novel.
Any
original novel written by a Sri Lankan author in 2003 will be considered
for this competition. The Sansadaya invites Sinhala novelists who
have published novels in 2003 to send their published work in 02
copies to reach the Coordinator, Swarna Padma Sansadaya, 15/1, Raja
Mawatha, Pitakotte before 07 July 2004 together with information
such as, Name of the Author, Title, Name of the publisher and year
of publication. The copies of books submitted for the competition
will not be returned and the decision of the Sansadaya will be final.
