target 100 cricket nations - Year 2005

"At present there are 89-member countries affiliated to the
International Cricket Council. But its objective will be to reach
the 100 mark by year 2005" said Mohan de Silva, President of
Sri Lanka Cricket in an interview with The Sunday Times. He took
wing to attend the annual meeting of the ICC to be held at Lord's.
De
Silva left with three other officials: namely, Duleep Mendis (CEO)
Lawrence (Secretary) and Bandula Warnapura (Cricket Operator). The
SLC President said that this year applications even from countries
like China proposed by India, Isle of Man by- England and Mexico
by the West Indies. will be up for voting in ICC's aim to make cricket
a global sport.
He
added besides the main meeting, the Asian Cricket Council General
Meeting, at Lord's. and the formation of an Afro-Asian Council will
also be discussed. The future program and review the present tour
programmes of cricket. The SLC President said "There are complaints
by cricketers there is, too much cricket for a year".
Also
in the agenda will be discussion on the relocation of the ICC headquarters.
The future of Zimbabwe International Cricket. and the venues for
the next World Cup 2007.
The
Sri Lankan cricket chief also added. "At the Executive Board
meeting chaired by I.C.C. President Ehsan Mani and Chief Executive
Malcolm Speed will address on the state of the game. |
