SACK 24 Trinity 8

The Anthonians came up with a polished performance to outsmart Trinity
by 24 points (3 tries, 3 penalties) to 8 (1 try, 1 penalty) in their
local derby at Pallakelle yesterday. The Anthonians certainly dominated
this game territorially and showed greater awareness and skill overall.
Trinity
whose strength was in their much heavier pack, made the mistake
of trying to use their back division too much. The three quarters
were slow and they gave out too many standing passes.
The
Anthonians went "hell for leather" from the start and
Pihillatena dropped a pass with an open field in front of him, quite
against the run of play, Trinity went ahead off an Isuru Jayasena
penalty.
That
was in the 10th minute. The winners hit back at once. Sanjay Rajaguru
made a five yard break and when tackled , slipped it back for Thilanka
Weerasekera to fall over (SACK 8- TCK_ 3).
A
Trinity flanker was spotted off side and Riyal converted a simple
penalty to extend the lead (11-3). Skipper Imran Bistamin was ferocious
in the loose and made several good breaks from the number eight
position.
Trinity
cut the deficit early in the second half when winger Niroshan Kumar
touched down far right off a grand move initiated by Jayasena. The
latter missed the conversion (SACK 11-TCK 8)
Riyal
put over a penalty shortly after to make it the 14-8. The Anthonians
tore the heart out of the Trinity side when full back Mohamed Sarfraz
in a breakaway move booted the ball ahead collected and ran on to
score (19-8).
The
lads from Katugastota delivered the coup-de grace a little before
full time when their winger Niranjan Xavier touched down in the
right corner after centre Nuwan Chamara had set him up with an exquisite
dummy. (24-8).
