Schoolboy
allegedly assaulted by teachers
Three schoolteachers including an Assistant Principal of the Bulathsinhala
Madya Maha Vidyalaya who had allegedly assaulted a sixteen-year-old
school boy last week have been arrested, police said.
They
said Balawedage Sahan Tharaka who was admitted to the Government
Hospital last Tuesday is reported to have been attacked because
he is alleged to have broken the side mirror of a teacher's motorcycle
and is now afraid to go to school due to fear of further punishment.
Bulathsinhala
Inspector Pragathi said the suspects were produced in courts and
were released on Rs. 5000 surety bail. In another human rights related
incident the Wariyapola Police are charged for allegedly assaulting
a twenty-six-year-old Roshan Jayaweera, a timber sawyer who resides
at Welawa.
On
July 15 three officers of the Wariyapola Police station had allegedly
beaten Mr. Jayaweera using a number of techniques including a belt.
When Mr. Jayaweera had come to the same station to make a complaint
to Wariyapola Inspector Nimal Rowel, the officer had allegedly ignored
him. Police Constable 9687 Premaratne had been indentified as one
of the alleged perpetrators.
Mr.
Jayaweera was later admitted to ward 35 of the Kurunegala General
Hospital where he underwent treatment for two days. While in hospital
both the Kurunegala Police and a Judicial Medical Officer heard
his complaint. However, no action has yet been taken by the police.
