Trinco’s
haven or hell hole?

Sixty-eight- year-old Sangarapillai Suntharalingam,
a retired Grama Niladhari who had been running a leading children's
home in Trincomalee-Anpu Illam-for the past two decades, has been
remanded till July 29 following allegations of child abuse.
Another
female suspect Ms Komalathevi who was arrested in this connection
was released on bail. The Judge gave orders for the arrest of Mr.
Suntharalingam and his aide Ms Komalathevi last week following a
report filed by the Trincomalee Police.
In
addition the Judge ordered that the inmates of the home be looked
after by the Department of Probation and Childcare. Following the
order police had been unable to arrest Mr.Suntheralingam as he had
been absconding. The suspect later surrendered to Trincomalee police.
The
Women and Child Bureau of the Trincomalee Police led by Inspector
Veena Ranasinghe is probing the alleged case of sexual abuse while
the Home has been brought under the care of the Department of Probation
and Childcare |
