JHU,
JVP snub Oslo
The JVP and the JHU snubbed Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar
Helgesen by refusing to meet him to discuss the peace process. The
Sunday Times learns that the Norwegian embassy had contacted the
JHU and the JVP seeking an appointment for the visiting facilitator,
but both parties had said no, though their reasons were different.
An
official of the Norwegian embassy said the JHU cited a policy issue
while the JVP cited logistical matters. A JHU official said they
did not want to meet Mr. Helgesen because they were strongly opposed
to the role Norway was playing. He said the JHU believed Norway
was biased towards the LTTE and therefore should be seen as an enemy
state.
A
JVP official said that while the party had logistical problems this
time it might consider meeting Mr. Helgesen if and when he came
here again. |
