4
months? Ha, ha, ha, says PM
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will continue in office after August
4 (next Wednesday) despite the four-month contract given to him
to hold the job by President Chandrika Kumaratunga, a spokesman
for his office told The Sunday Times yesterday.
The
spokesman said that events had turned in a different direction.
Mr. Rajapakse was sworn in as Prime Minister on April 4, two days
after the general elections.
In
an interview with The Sunday Times (Please see page 8), Premier
Rajapakse laughed off the question about his letter to President
Kumaratunga undertaking to quit his job after four months. He gave
no answer to the question.
Mr.
Rajapakse was only given visiting rights to 'Temple Trees', the
official residence of the Prime Minister, on the basis that the
new UPFA government would implement constitutional changes that
would end the executive presidency and introduce an executive prime
ministership within the first four months of office. |
