JVP gets back hijacked subjects
After a strong protest letter from the JVP, River Basin Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena has agreed to return some of the subjects under his purview to Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

These subjects had been taken away from the JVP minister and given to Mr. Sirisena under a gazette notification on July 12, prompting the JVP to fire out a strong protest letter to President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

The Sunday Times learns the compromise was worked out with the mediation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse who intervened to sort out the latest dispute in the UPFA.
