CR-Havies
at the "Park" today
By Bernie Wijesekera
CR & FC who gave a dismal performance
against CH & FC in their last confrontation lock Horns against
arch-rivals Havelocks SC at Havelock Park, today (Sunday August
1). Kick-off at 5.00 p.m. In the first-leg the Red Shirts thrashed
Havies by a 50 point margin. CR, a well-knit side should forget
the errors they made against CH and make amends in this traditional
match.
It
was the CR's backline that let them down, due to poor ball handling.
In the process CR lost all chances of making an impact for the top
spot in the league table. As a result Kandy SC is assured of retaining
the "Plum" for 2004 too, Havies, after their lukewarm
performances in the first round are playing with better co-ordination.
The
"Park Club" did well to beat CH & FC and Police SC
in a cliff-hanger 28-25 last weekend. Havies, playing with renewed
vigour will give CR a close run and forget about their first round
debacle. Havies "Pack" has to play cohesive rugby if they
are to match strength for strength against the CR "eight"
led by seasoned Savantha de Saram, CR, with a better back division
has the edge.
