Jackie
Dias wins again
The Ladies championship of the Royal Colombo Golf Club was quite
a success. Superbly organized and lavishly sponsored by Woodman
Lanka another combine coming under the wing of popular business
personality Chandra Senanayake. Deepo Senanayake his son heads Woodman
Lanka with success.
Jackie
Wins
Jackie Dias is quite an exciting player. She is smart,
brave and confident playing her shots and has been richly rewarded
in recent match competitions. She was in peak form meeting champ
of yesteryear Suweneetha Selvaratnam and showed her class with a
stunning win 6 & 5. Nirmal Hettiarachchy's match refereeing
was in complete command.
Danushi
Shines
"Lupperty" Danushi Senadhira in her early teens
was pretty impressive. New to the game she played brave shots fearlessly
and successfully. The attractive kid was extremely popular at the
award ceremony when she collected her bronze Trophy beating K. Remphal.
'Uncle' Willie Barsenbach refereed silently.
The
championship was superbly organized. Much credit goes to Anne captain
and her energetic team. The award ceremony sparkled with the presence
of past celebrities Lilamani Weeraratne, Farida Markar, Mystica
Flamer-Caldera, Heather 'Weather' Lourensz, Yvonne Abeyratne and
a few others. Grandmother Superior Pam Fernando a much respected
senior went down memory lane relaying the successes of yesteryear
identifying her contributions towards the improvement of the Ladies
section.
There
was agreement and she was loudly applauded. Pam the chief guest
distributed the main awards and Deepo Senanayake and Kamal Ratnapala
gave the other awards away.
A
lively party followed sponsored by Woodman Lanka. Music for jiving
attracted the oldies and it was great fun watching the champs (golf
and dancing) in sprightly action.
Tita
Nathanielsz, President of the Royal Colombo Golf Club in a lively
speech congratulated the ladies for the excellence of their organizing
skills, the two winners for their smart performances and finally
made a commitment that he would unstintingly support the ladies
section during his period of stewardship. A superb party, hellishly
fun filled came to a happy end late at night with loads of thanks
to Woodman and their wonderful hospitality. |
