Designer Dinesh Chandrasena designs for Eden Resort & Spa
As designer for Claires’ Collection in Los Angeles, Dinesh
Chandrasena has been privy to celebrity driven clientele and events
that are synonymous with Hollywood and the glitterati.
His
creations are based on themes that inspire him, and are usually
drawn from art, and the theatre, which may change his very outlook
not only on creativity, but on life in general. His celebrity clients
include Halle Berry, Cindy Crawford, Sandra Bullock, Shania Twain,
and many others in the entertainment industry.
Dinesh
also designs for numerous television specials, including “The
Price is Right”, “Who wants to be a Princess”,
most recently “The Swan”, and also for movies such as
“The Princess Diaries”, and “Miss Congeniality”.
Dinesh
also serves on the judging committee of his alma mater The Fashion
Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, for
their advanced study program, and is also invited annually to participate
in the designer section of the Dubai shopping festival (DSF), where
his creations are displayed to selected invitees. Dinesh also serves
as creative director to “Modus Vivendi”, a ready to
wear/knit wear company with manufacturing plants in Seoul, and Taipei.
Working
at projecting an image of vibrant sensuality, Dinesh was greatly
inspired by the garden setting of the Eden Resort and Spa. The ambience
of lush tropical splendour and of course the very name EDEN inspired
Dinesh to use vibrant shades of Turquoise, Ochre, Azure, Citrine,
Lapis Lazuli, and Tamarind. His silhouettes are all soft and flowing,
with continuous fluid lines, and soft curves, with splashes of colour
being the keynote of design detail. He also moved away from the
boredom of traditional starched stiff fabrics that are a monotonous
throw back to our colonial past.
Again
he felt that in keeping with international standards of resort hotels,
the textures needed to reflect the feel of not only out tropical
temperate weather, but also mirror the ocean and the surrounding
flora and fauna. |
