Wife's the most deserving
When it come to the deserving best, a boss of a service organisation
has proved that there was none so deserving than one's wife. The
organisation was supposed to grant a scholarship through a trust
for a 'deserving' candidate to take part in an international conference
in Bangkok. And guess who was the selected candidate? The wife of
the boss!
Able
and willing but left alone
When the Cabinet Press Conference was drawing to an end
a security officer brought a message by Tourism Minister Anura Bandaranaike
that he was on his way. The Minister on arrival was asked whether
he had any opening statement, but said no and was ready to answer
any questions. A scribe asked whether the good Minister would take
up the Leader of the Alliance post, which his sister had vacated
the other day.
Cabinet
Spokesman Mangala Samaraweera chipped in to say that his colleague
was "young, willing and able" for the post. Minister Bandaranaike
quickly responded that he was "able and willing", not
exactly "young", only to learn that Ratnasiri Wickramanayake
was being appointed for the post later in the night.
Police
lessons anyone?
With the Independent Police Commission and the IGP having differences
about the recent Police promotions Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle
on Tuesday told the UNP, "There is a Police Force in the North
and East. Why, you may ask Tiger Inspector General Nadesan himself
if you want to teach a lesson to our Police."
K.
Shivajilingam was courteous enough to say, "Minister, we are
much grateful to the Government to have recognized our Police Force.
Unlike the Police Force in the South, ours is not ruthless."
