Lankans
organise seminar in the West on LTTE terrorism
The World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka (WAPS) jointly with its
Norwegian Counterpart R-Centre is organizing a full-day seminar
on LTTE terrorism to be held in Oslo, Norway on August 20. The seminar
is said to be the first of its kind to be held in the West by Sri
Lankans.
The
conference topic is “Road Maps to Peace in Sri Lanka".
According to the organizers, the forum is one of the pioneer efforts
to bring Sri Lanka’s recent history into the focus of an international
audience.
The
forum will present an in-depth analysis of the consequences of Norway’s
policies in the Sri Lankan conflict and towards terrorism in general.
The organizers have identified the positive and negative aspects
in the Norwegian peace negotiations and foreign aid.
Special
Adviser to Norway’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Eric Solheim
and Secretary General of Amnesty International, Norway, Peter Edie
are expected to address the conference.
Rovik
Norway representing the Norwegian Anti-Terrorist Organization SVIK,
will speak on “Norway and LTTE Terrorism” and expose
Norway’s controversial role in the Sri Lankan conflict, Oslo’s
liberal asylum policies towards known terrorists and the failure
to enforce international anti-terrorism laws and regulations.
In
his speech Rovik is expected to play back all secret telephone conversations
between Oslo’s representatives and LTTE leaders which have
been recorded.
The
other speakers expected to address the conference are Norwegian
Foreign Office Special Advisor Lisa Golden, Paul Harris of the UK
who works internationally as a writer, Dr. Peter Chalk of the US
who is a policy analyst working in the Project Air Force and National
Security Divisions of the Rand Corporation, Washington DC., Mr.
Stewart Bell, Chief Reporter of Canada's National Post newspaper
covering the national security beat, Prof. Shantha K. Hennayake,
Professor at the Geography Department of the University of Peradeniya,
Dr. Susantha Goonatilake, formerly attached to the UN and also a
senior consultant to all UN organs dealing with knowledge and science
and technology issues and H.L.D. Mahindapala, former Editor of the
Daily Observer and the Sunday Observer from 1990-1994, now resident
in Australia. |
