Dedunu Palama is about the life of a university lecturer.
It is on National Rupavahini every Thursday at 7.30 pm. Parakrama
Bandara a lecturer in Sinhala at the University is married to Nelum
Kumari. They have three daughters and a son. Nelum Kumari was interested
in her cousin Shirley yet her father gives her in marriage to Parakrama
Bandara who becomes a popular songwriter.
A
graduate of the Peradeniya University Bandara is attached to the
Colombo University as a lecturer in Sinhala. At the height of the
riots in 1980 Bandara clashes with the chancellor which results
in Bandara being interdicted.
Siva
and Lakshmi help Parakrama financially during this period. Siva
works in an advertising firm and he gets Parakrama’s help
when Sinhala editions are needed. Lakshmi is a Bharatha Natya teacher.
Their eldest child is Krishna and Nithya is their daughter.
Parakrama
writes songs for Madu a popular singer who hopes to put out a new
cassette. As he is jobless he helps Madu with the advertising and
other details relating to the release. Jagath who does the music
for the cassette is interested in Madu. But it is one sided. Jagath
gives anonymous calls to Parakrama’s wife saying that Madu
and Parakrama are in love.
Thus
Nelum becomes suspicious. Parakrama sells his old vehicle at a very
low price. Now he goes by bus or Madu gives him a lift when he wants
to go out. Jagath has an argument with Parakrama, when he sees him
talking to Madu. Meanwhile Parakrama’s son Ravi is hospitalized.
This gives rise to a conflict between Parakrama and Nelum. Now the
stories regarding Madu and Parakrama reach a high point as Madu
helps Parakrama in various ways.
