price shocks on the cards
With world oil prices soaring and the rupee depreciating, prices
of many essential items have gone up while more price hikes are
in the offing. Bus fares and prices of wheat products, including
bread, are expected to rise while gas prices, which were raised
a few weeks ago, are also to go up further.

owners are discussing the percentage of the price increase and the
private bus owners and gas companies have sought approval to increase
rates and prices. According to gas company sources, Shell has sought
permission for a Rs. 70 hike and Laugfs a Rs. 49 hike.
On
Friday, milk food prices were increased by amounts ranging from
Rs. 4 to Rs. 10. Eating houses and food sellers have increased the
price of a packet of lunch by Rs. 5. |
