JVP
to link up with Chinese CP
The JVP is to sign an agreement on mutual co-operation with the
Chinese Communist Party, enabling it to obtain political support
and financial assistance from Beijing.
The
agreement will be signed early next month during an official visit
by a JVP delegation to China. The JVP has been invited by the Chinese
government to attend a conference for Asian political parties.
The
conference, to be held from September 3 to 5, will be attended by
JVP leader Somawansa Amerasinghe and Nandana Gunatilleke. On the
sidelines of this conference, the JVP will hold talks with the Chinese
Communist party officials and sign the inter-party mutual cooperation
agreement.
The
Sri Lanka Communist Party which had attended this conference in
the previous years, has apparently been overlooked this time. This
is the first time the JVP has received an official invitation at
diplomatic level.
The
Sunday Times learns the JVP was keen to build relationships with
China. Soon after the UPFA was elected to office in April, a JVP
delegation met the Chinese Ambassador Funguo Xiang. |
