Damayanthi
back with ‘La Sanda Paya’
Popular vocalist Damayanthi Jayasuriya will mark another milestone
in her tuneful career when she launches her newest cassette and
CD on August 23 at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre at 6.30 pm.
The
award-winning songstress will launch her latest album ‘La
Sanda Paya’ amidst a musical treat joined by Kamal Addarachchi,
Rohan Shantha Bulegoda and her multi-talented son Nuwan Nayanajith
Kumara. Damayanthi who entered the fields of music and singing via
the Lama Pitiya of the then Radio Ceylon, has rendered her voice
to several films and tele dramas apart from hundreds of other songs.
In
1994, she bagged the Best Singer’s Presidential award for
‘Unmadawu Premadare’ in Saptha Kanya. Her previous albums
were Hiruta Muwawen and Awaaraye Pipi.
Rohana
Weerasinghe, Dr. Lionel Algama, H.M. Jayawardena, Nawaratne Gamage,
Sarath Wickrama, Carlo Wijesiri, Mervyn Perera, Mahinda Bandara,
Sangeeth Wickramasinghe and Sunil Jayasiri have handled the music
scores for La Sanda Paya, while the lyrics are by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne,
Vasanatha Kumara Kobawaka, Bandula Nanayakkarawasam, Rev. Thirikunamale
Ananada Thera, Rev. Rambukkana Siddhartha Thera, Maj. Gen. Ananda
Weerasekara, Preethi Randeniya, Dhammika Bandara, Sarath Gunaratne,
Camillus Perera, Sumudu Weththasinghe, Ravi Siriwardena, Swarna
Kanthi Rajapakse, Chandrika Jayaneththi and Shantha Deshabandu.
The
Army oriental band headed by Major Wijesundara Weragoda will conduct
the music for tomorrow’s event. |
