collision kills two in van
A van had collided with a bus in Habarana yesterday killing two
occupants in the van. The accident had occurred at around 12:10
pm. The van which was travelling from Colombo to Trincomalee apparently
at high speed had collided with the bus travelling from Polonnaruwa
to Kandy, one kilometre away from the Habarana junction on the Dambulla
Road.

Police said the driver of the van, 35-year-old Palanivel Thrivendran
and the 55-year-old passenger identified as Anandan Selvarathnam,
a house-maid returning from Middle East, had been killed. Police
said both vehicles had been travelling at high speed at the time
of the collision. The driver of the van had apparently fallen asleep
at the wheel. |
