Indrajith
in action today

With the closing ceremony scheduled for today, the last event of
the Olympic spectacle will be the men's marathon event in which
Sri Lanka's Anuradha Indrajith Cooray will be seen in action. The
event is scheduled for 9 p.m. (Sri Lanka time). Speaking of the
chances of Indrajith at this event the Sri Lanka national coach
Lakshman de Alwis said "Our motive here is not to win medals,
but, the participation. However we are very confident that Indrajith
will finish among the first fifteen. 113 athletes are billed to
take part in this event.
This
the very first occasion that Indrajith Cooray is taking part in
an Olympic event. The best timing of the 26 year old so far is 2hrs
16mts and 38 seconds. Kenyan Paul Tergat who holds the world record
at this event has his best time at 2 hrs 4mts and 55 seconds.
Coach
de Alwis and Indrajith Cooray will leave Greece on the 31 of August.
It was revealed during the games that both Susanthika Jayasinghe
and Damayanthi Dharsha were given Rs. 100,000 each in the last twelve
months of their prepaation for the Olympics but, Dharsha did not
make any impact in the 400 metres event while Susanthika who qualified
to run the 100 metres event pulled out just before the contingent
left for the games. |
