Preference
to Samurdhi recipients for foreign jobs
As a means of reducing poverty, plans are afoot for Samurdhi beneficiaries
and their families to be given preference when it comes to obtaining
foreign employment, the Foreign Employment Bureau said.
"This
project initiated on the direction of Minister Athauda Seneviratne
would be easier to implement where employment deals are between
Governments", said Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, adding "but
it is not easy when we have to rely on the private sector as well".
Meanwhile,
Association Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies (ALFEA) President
Suraj Dandeniya said his organisation supports this idea mooted
by the Foreign Employment Bureau.
"It'll
be beneficial for our country to secure jobs for Samurdhi recipients,
as on the one hand it will to a large extent help alleviate poverty
and on the other help fulfil the demand for labour opportunities
in Middle Eastern countries" Mr. Dandeniya said. |
