David
Evans wins Free Lanka Trophy
British Expat David Evans hits a helluva long ball and plays comfortably
to his handicap of 5 with an occasional hiccup which rushes him
to the practice range to correct the defect. On Saturday he was
in exceptional form striking an excellent nett 69 to take the "A"
Division Classic and celebrate in large doses at the glorious 19th.
Satoru Tanokura came behind with nett 71.
Griffin
Excels
Stephen Griffin quite new on the scene was in superb form
with his exceptionally positive putting helping him to save strokes
and bringing him nett 67 and the "B" Division trophy.
Ranil Pathirana came behind with a praiseworthy 1 under par nett
70.
Sanjay Wettimuny a good looking tender stroke player with 81 collected
the lowest gross score in this division.
Nadaraja
Sparkles
After a long stay in the wilderness Tony Nadaraja came
out sharp, bright & breezy. Picking up his flair for hitting
and trusting to luck he moved into a commanding position to strike
4 under par nett 67 and win the "C" Division.
He
celebrated an incessant session at the Guv'nors with a few well
wishes. Navin Pieris another enthusiastic player appeared quite
delighted with his 2nd position success nett 68.
Seniors
Lalith de Mel's tenacity was amply rewarded when he crawled
into nett 76 which was quite adequate to beat M. Samarathunga on
nett 77.
Masters
Once again U. Than Tun the golfing ambassador moved to
the victory stand this time winning the Master's Division beating
great enthusiast and happy player Priya Samarasinghe 73 to 74.
Pool
players
N. Amarapathma & J.J. Kumar showed us all more evidence
that the future of our golf remains in the safe possession of the
Caddie class golfer. They were in great form with Amarapathma striking
gross 68 & Kumar 70. My plea to the Golf Union is to please
spare more time for them. Give them more opportunities, better incentives
and much more attention to their needs.
Dian
Jayasuriya the caring President of the Golf Union understands them
and can be depended upon to move into a rescue operation. Free Lanka
Trading the renowned Wines & Spirits Merchants were lavish in
their sponsorship.
Disaster
The disaster zone was packed to capacity with 4 dozen
centurions and one and a half dozen producing confetti. The pond
boys were jubilant and the kids in the neighborhood had more balls
for sale on Sunday. |
