MLTR live in Sri Lanka
With global record sales of more than eight million units since their debut in 1991, the history of Michael Learns To Rock contains not only the story of one of the biggest international successes ever to come out of Denmark, it’s also the tale of how exceptions often confirm the rule. The band is about music, the formidable talent for writing fine pop songs and above all the ability to cut through all the noise with material that has earned the group a faithful following… And now the sounds of Michael Learns To Rock will be heard by local fans as they perform live in Sri Lanka next month.

The Michael Learns To Rock saga began quite modestly back in 1987 in Aarhus, Denmark. The singer and keyboard player Jascha Richter formed a band with drummer Kåre Wanscher and guitarist Mikkel Lentz – a café band. All three were huge music fans and decided to create a more serious band. In 1988 Søren Madsen, a guitarist, joined in and Michael Learns To Rock became a reality.

Michael Learns To Rock music has been described as a Scandinavian glow that meets the international pop song, something that has been refined through the years by artistes such as The Beatles, The Eagles, Elton John and Billy Joel. It’s precisely the perfect balance of the two elements described above that has been instrumental in forming the sound of the band and won Michael Learns To Rock millions of fans around the globe.

In 2000, Søren Madsen decided to leave the group to try his hand at a solo carrier. Richter, Lentz and Wanscher opted to continue as a trio. The band decided to ally itself with the Danish musician, arranger and producer Boe Larsen. Uniting with the band, he and Michael Learns To Rock hit upon a new musical direction.

Here in Sri Lanka too they have become a household name. Their music has always been instantly recognised and enjoyed by everyone. Their faithful fans and everyone who has some interest in their music will now get the chance to hear them sing your favourite songs live when they arrive in Sri Lanka.

Michael Learns To Rock will be performing at the BRC Grounds on October 6. Keep scanning the papers for more details.
