Would-be
law student takes question paper to courts
A prospective law student has challenged the question paper of the
Law College Entrance Examination held recently.
A
Police officer, Sirimanne Gunasekera of Panadura, attached to Police
Headquarters who sat for the examination held on September 11 filed
a petition in the Court of Appeal.
The
respondents are the Commissioner General of Examinations, Registrar
of The Council of Legal Education, Dr. J.H.F. de. Silva and Justice
Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne. The petitioner states that many questions
were outside the scope and syllabus and had no relevance whatsoever.
He
states that the questions out of the syllabus totals up to 19% of
the maximum marks. The petitioner is seeking Court to issue notice
to the respondents, make order directing the first respondent from
releasing the results of the examination held on the September 11,
to quash the entire examination or to refuse to take into consideration
the questions that were outside the syllabus.
Among
the questions that he claims were out of context are on what the
objective was of the "Regaining Sri Lanka" programme of
the Government introduced in 2003, the number of nations which participated
at the Olympic Games held in 2004, to write three ways in which
a country's production could be computed and what the facets of
accountability were. |
