sues ANCL for Rs. 5 million
A Divaina journalist has sued The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon
Limited (ANCL) for five million rupees in compensation for an article
published in the Silumina defaming him.
Sarath
Dharmasena filed a case in the Colombo District Court citing ANCL,
its Chairman Janadasa Peiris, Silumina Editor and Sirasa journalist
T. Jayakumar as respondents, for publishing a column in the Silumina
of May 30, 2004 defaming him.
Petitioner
Sarath Dharmasena, senior courts reporter for Divaina charged that
the column "Usaviyen" (From Courts) published in Silumina,
was written with malicious intent and had made several defamatory
statements regarding his career in journalism.
The
petitioner alleged that J. Jeyakumar of Sirasa had authored the
article to defame the petitioner as he had a personal hatred against
him. |
