Lankan
diplomat complains against colleagues
A senior Sri Lankan diplomat in France has created a furore after
complaining of theft at his private residence, and accusing some
of his own colleagues of being behind it.
The
French police have questioned Sri Lankan Embassy staff, among others,
to ascertain how the theft took place. The usual protocol is for
the embassy to conduct an in-house inquiry in such matters without
involving the local police.
The
diplomat in question is reported to have figured in at least two
different brawls whilst in service in Paris. In one, he had been
assaulted by a group of expatriate Sri Lankans after allegations
of improper conduct.
According
to reports from Paris, this Sri Lankan diplomat has had a number
of other complaints against him when he was posted to an Asian capital,
previously. Foreign Ministry sources declined to comment on the
incident except to say the matter would be looked into. |
