Asian
Junior Volleyball Championships
Japan-China final promises
good fare
Japan is set to meet China in what promises to be a thrilling final
at the 12th Asian Junior Womens volleyball championships hosted
by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Association at the Sugathadasa indoor
stadium today.
Yesterday
China came up with a power packed performance to beat Korea at 26/24-25/20-25/17
in a thrilling semi-final game. Korea did pose a threat in the first
few sets of this game, but China was visually the fitter and the
more dominant team towards the latter part of the game held sway.
In
the other semi-final Japan met Chinese Taipei who also seemed a
strong team in the initial stages of the match. However like the
Koreans they ran out of steam towards the final and crucial stages
of the match. Japan won this game 25/21-25/18-25/20.
Nine
teams took part in the above event, which started on the 19th of
September. Amongst those teams were Australia, China, India, Japan,
Korea, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Maldives and the host nation Sri
Lanka.
The
local team did not have any chance to prove that our National sport
is flourishing within the shores of our island as they finished
in the 8th place losing to India who took up 7th place. Australia
took up 6th place losing to Thailand who took up 5th place by winning
15/25-18/25-17/25 in this match that was played yesterday. The match
to decide 3rd and 4th places will be played between Korea and Chinese
Taipei today at 2pm. The final between Japan and China will be worked
off at 4pm. (DZ) |
