Lankan
Cavaliers off to Chennai for a series of friendly matches
The Lankan Cavaliers a pioneer veterans cricket club working for
peace, service and goodwill through cricket embarked on a week long
to Chennai, India to play a series of friendly matches on an invitation
extended by the International Fellowship of Cricket loving Rotarians,
R.I. District 3230, Chennai.
The
team led by the first test cricket captain of Sri Lanka Bandula
Warnapura who is also the founding member and the present president
of the Cavaliers club comprise players of the calibre of Jayantha
Seneviratne, Basil Perera, S. Illangaratnam, Mervyn and Damien Fernando,
Daya Sirisena, Dr. Ananda Gunasekera, Jayalath Aponso, C.P.P. Raj,
Pemlal Fernando, Wasanthalal Fernandom Rupanath Wickramaratne, Senaka
Angulugaham Srinath Wijeyaratne and Lakith Pieris.
The
team is due to play three matches against a Rotarians XI, Madras
CC Veterans XI and Chennai Veterans Invitation XI which include
some former national players of yesteryear. Besides the three matches
the Cavaliers will conduct a couple of training sessions in cooperation
with the Rotarians in helping some schools in Annanagar, Chennai.
This will be second tour that the Cavaliers will be making with
the first being to Dubai. -MSA |
