in life, hero in death
Sinhala film legend Gamini Fonseka will be given a rare honour today,
when on the instructions of President Kumaratunga, his funeral will
take place amidst the greatest national heroes at Independenve Square.
The
cortege of the film legend will leave his Ja-ela residence at 12.30
p.m. for Independence Square for the final rites. The cremation
will take place at 5.00 p.m. Gamini Fonseka made his entrance into
the world of film in Rekawa, the first film of Dr. Lester James
Peiris.
Although
his first role was starring in a crowd scene Fonseka moved fast
towards becoming a superstar after being selected by Dr. Peiris
to act in Sandeshaya, Gamperaliya and Nidhanaya. Gamini Fonseka,
a product of S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia with more than a hundred
films to his credit highlighted his talents as a director in 1966
with the film Parasathumal. |
