Present here
A function was held to commemorate the 55th Chinese National day at the BMICH on Thursday organised by the Sri Lanka-China Friendship Foundation.

Present on the occasion was JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, President of the Foundation Cultural Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Sun Guoxiang. Also in attendance was Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike.

Absent there
Also ongoing at the BMICH at the same time was the S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike memorial oration being delivered by Professor Laksiri Fernando with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse in attendance. However at this venue conspicuous by his absence was the junior Mr. Bandaranaike who chose to attend the Chinese National Day celebrations next door instead of his late father's memorial oration.

Rain a spoiler
The new traffic arrangement on Galle Road and Duplication Road, which was to be tried out on Poya day (September 28), was postponed due to bad weather, according to a senior police officer. It was rescheduled for today but there was no confirmation if this would go ahead either. Looks like it is not only cricket that gets postponed by bad weather.
