Proposed
herbal park encroached on
By Sachitra Mahendra
A state owned block of land called 'Osu Uyana' allocated
for growing herbs, is reportedly being encroached on by a gem businessman
from Talangama allegedly with the connivance of a top official in
the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).
Although
several complaints have been lodged with the Talangama police against
the alleged encroachment, no action has been taken so far. The Sunday
Times learns that the top NHDA official had allegedly taken a bribe
from the businessman. As a result, the official has failed to make
a prompt complaint to the Police. He has only made a complaint against
the businessman on the orders of another NHDA official.
The
alleged encroachment had started a few months ago with the construction
of a fence around the land, depriving others from parking or turning
their vehicles. The valuable jak trees on the land had been felled.
A perch of land in the area is said to be valued at around Rs. 250,000. |
