STF kills killer of LTTE cadre
An LTTE cadre in Akkaraipattu was shot dead last morning and his alleged assassin was subsequently killed in a shoot out with STF troops in the area, Police said.

An STF patrol in the area which had heard of the shooting of the LTTE cadre identified as Jude had tracked down the alleged gunman who had holed himself up in a house. The man had allegedly tried to hurl a grenade at the STF men who opened fire and killed him.

Police said the STF had recovered the suspected murder weapon with evidence indicating Jude was killed by an anti-Prabhakaran group.

In a statement, the STF said this incident provided proof that government troops were not taking sides in the ongoing factional fighting between the LTTE and the breakaway group.
