Kaushal
helps Thomians
By Mahangu Weerasinghe
S. Thomas' College scored a first innings win when
they restricted Mahinda College Galle for 183 runs at tea yesterday.
The Thomians thereafter put together 48 for 1 in twenty six overs,
but the failing light forced a draw of the match.
The
Mount Lavinia boys, batting first, managed to score their 195 in
only 71.3 overs, finishing their innings in just two sessions. Mahinda
College on the other hand dragged their 183 runs over 95.1 overs,
spreading it across three whole sessions and killing any chance
of a decisive outcome for the match.
Former
Thomian skipper Kaushal Silva was the highest scorer of the game,
knocking together eighty-nine runs in his side's first innings.
Thilina Rajakaruna of Mahinda College was the highest scorer for
his side, scoring forty-seven.
As
for the bowling attack it was Carls Wesmond of Mahinda College who
bagged the only five-wicket haul of the match, managing his five
wickets for only fifty four runs. Thomian Skipper and leg spinner
Vidyesh Balasubramaniam was close behind with an impressive haul
of four for fifty nine.
