Scouts
join Lions in Dengue war
Scouts throughout the island will join hands with the Lions Club
in an anti-dengue campaign. Lions International District 306 B signed
a MoU for the programme with the Sri Lanka Scouts Association, yesterday
at its headquarters in Colombo.
"The
Scouts will assist the Lions who had come to eradicate dengue",
said Scouts' Chief Commissioner Soma Weerakoon adding, "the
duty of every Scout is not only to distribute pamphlets, but also
to inform us of garbage dumped in public places."
According
to the MoU, the Lions would distribute handbills and pamphlets to
householders identified by them or the Scouts. The Scouts in turn
would keep the Lions informed of any Dengue prone areas or infected
persons.
"The
Lions chose the Scouts to assist Operation Dengue as there are no
other movement who could take the Dengue eradication message from
house to house", said Graetian Gunawardhana, the Lion's Anti-Dengue
Campaign Project Chairman. "In addition to the pamphlets, we
will have mobile Cleaning Units too", added Mr. Gunawardhana.
The
Mobile Cleaning Unit can be contacted on hot line number 4528888.
This unit will charge Rs. 500/= for cleaning mosquito breeding places.
"Two
hundred rupees will be for the Lions Club and the rest will we used
to develop the anti-dengue bacteria. Starting from the Lions Club
District 306 B, we hope to collaborate with the Lions Club A and
C for an island-wide campaign", Mr. Gunawardhana said. |
