Harim
visits LTTE area to build rapport
Holds talks on rehabilitation
and reconstruction with TRO officials
In a fresh attempt to develop a rapport with
the LTTE, Presidential spokesman Harim Peiris has visited the LTTE-held
Wanni for talks on continuing rehabilitation and reconstruction
work in the uncleared areas.
Mr.
Peiris, the first official from the President's Office to visit
LTTE areas after the April elections, on Thursday went to the LTTE-controlled
Kilinochchi for talks with officials of the Tamil Rehabilitation
Organisation (TRO), an organisation which is known to be controlled
by the LTTE.
Vavuniya,
District Secretary K. Ganesh coordinated Thursday's visit of Mr.
Peiris, who is also the Director General for Relief, Rehabilitation
and Reconstruction. Mr. Peiris declined immediate comment on his
visit, but said he would comment later.
TRO
officials in Kilinochchi also declined to give details of the talks.
The move came as the LTTE declared that it would consider 'counter
proposals' from the government, only if the talks were resumed based
on the LTTE's proposals for an Interim Self-Governing Authority
(ISGA).
"We
can discuss any proposal by the government only if talks resume
on the ISGA proposals. Fresh proposals may be submitted at the negotiating
table," LTTE spokesman Daya Master said. |
