Inaugural
Regent International College Swimming Meet
Neptune AC and Holy Cross show their
might
By M. Shamil Amit
The inaugural swimming meet of the Regent International
College of Gampaha ended on a successful note with over 36 teams
participating which comprised of 19 in the boy's category and 17
in the girl's category.
This
incidentally is the first ever swimming meet to be held in the Gampaha
district which was held over two day's and concluded yesterday at
the newly laid out 25 metre swimming pool at the school which also
is the first ever pool to be constructed in the district.
Neptune
Aquatic Club Gampaha and Holy Cross College Gampaha had the honour
of being declared the champions of the inaugural meet in the boy's
and girl's category. Neptune AC received 102 points while Holy Cross
College gathered 113 points in the respective categories.
The
meet though restricted to the swimmers in the Gampaha district attracted
over 300 entries in both the boys and girls category. The organizers
were helped by the officials of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union
along with Metropolitan Agencies, Sri Lankan Airlines, Lanka Orex
Leasing, HNB Assurance, People's Bank and Ranatunge Motors Gampola
coming in as co sponsors which enabled them to conduct the swimming
meet smoothly.
It
was encouraging to see so many students in the Gampaha district
getting an opportunity to show their talent in a sport which is
dominated by the leading schools in the metropolis and the interest
shown by the parents of the participants was tremendous. The bold
step taken by Regent International College an institution, which
started only two year's, ago is definitely going to be a boon to
those interested in swimming in this district. |
