Sand : 3 decades of success

Sri Lanka recorded more than 500,000 tourists
arrivals last year. The present success in tourism is mainly because
of the its solid base laid during the early 70’s .
The
hotels in Negombo, Hikkaduwa and Trinco was the main attraction
centres of Sri Lanka. Negombo stands tall out of them. Goldie Sands
Hotel was one of the pioneers in the trade and is now ready to celebrate
the three decades of success.
The
hotel celebrates its thirty years of operation on October 30 with
grand bash. The hotel started its business with just 25 rooms in
1974 and now expanded into 75 roomed luxury hotel. All room are
with all modern facilities including IDD, TV and pipped music.
October
30 will be another landmark celebration to E. Croos, the General
Manager of the hotel. He has 25 years of service at the Goldie Sand
Hotel.
‘I
took over as GM in 1990 and from that day onwards we developed and
refurbished annually. I realized, we had to compete with all new
modern hotels and I started renovating the place gradually.’
he said
The hotel boasts of having a modern conference hall that can accommodate
150 pax.
‘I
can say without any hesitation, Goldie Sands Hotel is the only hotel
in Negombo, which has all multimedia conference facilities.’
He said
Next month will see anther up-to date conference hall, which can
be accommodate 200 pax theatre style.
‘I
am keen on this matter, as Negombo has no proper conference facilities.
’Croos said. Karaoke bar and a state of art bar are the other
attractions of the Hotel.
“Cuisine
is our best attraction. From the very inception of the Hotel, Goldie
Sands was popular for good and classy dishes. We still maintained
that class and all overseas visitors comment on this’ he added

Nights are popular with the guests and the popular nights are Sri
Lankan , Indian, BBQ, Chinese and Mongolian. Goldie Holidays, the
travel arm of the hotel will be eyeing more and more Indian travellers
, he said. The present Chairman of the Hotel is Mr. Eric Suriyasena.
